The Importance of a Website in the Digital world we live in today.

Getting a good placement in Google search results may seem tough, but you can make life a lot easier for yourself and your website by taking some simple, Google-recommended, steps to help the search engine giant know you’re there.

As more and more people look to find businesses and services online, the demand to have a great website now increases.

It is no longer just a requirement to have a website, but a requirement to have a great website. Mobile-devices account for 50% of website traffic, and it is growing as mobile devices become more affordable and more technologically advanced.

Having a website is an absolute must for any business, especially in a world where everything’s going digital. But getting your website noticed on Google is another matter, and not always easy.

In this article, we’re talking about our top 10 ways to get your website noticed on Google (and elsewhere online), so you can start bringing in visitors and growing your business.

1. Optimize every page of your site with rich content.

This is by far the most complicated item on this list, but it’s fundamental. Without it, you’ll be hard-pressed to get visibility in search engines at all.

All of your pages, especially your main lineup (home, contact, etc.), need to include concisely written, descriptive content. Ideally, this content will be optimized for specific target keywords and phrases (as long as the text doesn’t seem unnatural). If you have pages without much content, prevent Google from indexing them by using the “no index” attribute, and “nofollow” any links to those pages, as well.

2. Target your website’s pages to specific keywords

Google doesn’t just notice good websites. It notices relevant website pages that are best suited for specific searches.

Writing keyword-relevant ads with high-quality scores is one thing. But you also need to consider your on-page SEO.

Make sure each page of your website clearly targets a specific topic. That means conducting in-depth keyword research to find high-volume, relevant keywords, and incorporating those keywords on your page and in your meta tags. The more specific and targeted the topic, the greater the opportunity each page has to show up on the first page of Google and get noticed.

3. Build more website pages

Did you know that the blog section is an opportunity to get noticed on Google and rank for a more diverse set of keywords?

However, don’t make the mistake of starting a blog just for the extra pages. Google ranks blog posts (and people visit them) because they provide helpful information or advice. If your blog is a trusted that resource increases the value you bring to the table, it will most definitely help your website to get noticed by people seeking information on Google.

4. Get verified by Google

Google crawls the web and discovers your website pages depending on how easy they are to read and categorize. Want to allow Google to crawl your pages even more efficiently? Submit your business to Google Maps using Google My Business.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Create a Google My Business account
  2. Find your business on Google Maps
  3. Claim your business on Google Maps

It’s that easy. The final step is waiting for a physical verification code in the mail and enter it in your Google My Business profile.

Once you’ve claimed your business, you will be verified by Google and have the ability to optimize your Google My Business listing. The more complete your business listing is, the more your business (and website) will start picking up impressions and clicks (i.e. getting noticed) on Google.

5. Use compelling images

People search Google images more than you may think. If you have high-quality photos of your products or services, be sure they’re optimized to rank in an image search by doing the following:

  • Choose an appropriate file name
  • Keep the file size small to reduce load time
  • Add captions
  • Use alt text and title text
  • Include images in your XML sitemaps

Additional bonus point if your image is optimized. As your image will then be indexed and searchable in Google Image Search — an indirect, but valuable route for online searchers to get to your site.

6. Make your content easily shareable.

This is a simple change, and if you haven’t done it already, you’ve probably missed out on some significant opportunities. On your blog page, feature social share icons so your users can actively and easily share your content socially. Social shares don’t contribute to rankings directly but can make your pieces more visible, making it easier for them to earn more inbound links. Similarly, to the blogs, this also helps you get better visibility for your website on Google.

This benefit was recently confirmed as one of the top two ranking factors in Google’s algorithm. If your site is WordPress-based, there are a number of plugins that can add social share buttons to your website dynamically.

Remember don’t just share but stay involved in social media.

Stay actively engaged on social media to get your posts to stand out. For example:

  • Ask conversation-starting questions
  • Answer your follower’s questions (being funny is a bonus!)

7. Run a Google Ads campaign

Paid search ads require a monetary investment. That said, they can seriously increase your online exposure.

Google Ads costs money, yes. But they also convert very well on average. Advertising on Google is a surefire way to get your brand to the top of the search results; and if not to the top, then to ensure you at least have more coverage. Have a Google Ads account already? 8. Get Rid of  404 errors

404 errors are annoying for users and might interfere with the number of pages Google can index. They’re unlikely to hurt your rankings alone, but it’s still usually worth setting up a 301 redirect or restoring the page if you notice a 404 error where there shouldn’t be one. Google Search Console has a great tool for checking this — check under “crawl errors.” If your website is on WordPress, you can download one of a number of plugins designed to automatically make 404-pages fun or useful, or automatically 301-redirect them to another page, such as your homepage.

9. Customize page and site titles

Search engines typically prioritize the following content from your site in this order:

  • Site title
  • SEO titles
  • Page titles
  • Blog post titles
  • Headings

You can set default title formats for the homepage, collections (like Blog, Products, and Event Pages), and collection items (like blog posts and events). These titles also appear in browser tabs and search results, so it’s important to write them so they’re friendly to both humans and search bots.

10. Ensure SSL is enabled

When SSL is enabled, the custom URL starts with HTTPS. This means visitors access every page of your site with a secure connection. Search engines consider SSL important and may penalize sites that don’t have it enabled.

If you’re unsure if SSL is enabled for your site, check the SSL panel and confirm it’s set to the Secure setting.
