Google ‘May 2020 Core Update’ & Content Marketing | Vindicta Digital
Google has started rolling out a new core search algorithm update that it calls the May 2020 Core Update.
The new update comes months after the search giant released the last core algorithm update back in January. We have covered this in the blog post below:
2020 GOOGLE UPDATES
The goal behind updates from Google is to try and improve the quality of results that users get when they enter a search query into the site. While this is good for an end-user, many sites can see their performance fluctuate as a result of the update. To avoid its results being manipulated, Google doesn’t give out the details of its routine updates, merely advising content creators to focus on quality content.
Content is the king and it is increasingly working its way to the forefront of all digital marketing strategies, as it becomes a crucial element that reaps big rewards.
Just in case you’re new to the game, let’s revise why content is the king?
It’s Great for SEO
High-quality, unduplicated content on a brand’s onsite blog has a significant impact on SEO and search engine ranking for a couple of reasons. First, unique content published regularly with around 300-500 words, internal links to other relevant content and naturally placed keywords helps a website rank organically for relevant search terms and keywords. A higher ranking ultimately exposes the brand to more digital consumers searching for content in its industry. Second, consistently publishing great content creates authority and opens up opportunities to build a glowing backlink profile.
Content Marketing Increases Traffic
Not only is good-quality, original content great for SEO purposes, it’s also a brilliant way to drive traffic to a website and keep consumers on the site for longer. For example, a website with just a homepage and contact page will receive much higher bounce rates, limited page views and very little engagement, whereas a website with an onsite blog packed full of engaging content leaves an impression on the user and encourages them to interact with the site and visit multiple pages. Great content creates brand awareness and authority in a saturated market, which then has the potential to generate new leads and increase sales as more consumers become exposed to the brand.
Encourages engagement
Great content, whether it is in the form of a blog post or social media update, encourages users to engage with the brand, whether they realise it or not. If the content is genuinely good, users will pause to consume the content, understand the brand message and perhaps even comment, like or share the piece of content. If it’s not, they’ll continue scrolling past and the content will disappear into the black hole that is cyberspace. To further encourage engagement and foster a relationship with consumers through content marketing, ensure all content is pushed out through social media channels and make sharing easy.
Broader update to enhance Google search experience
If the May 2020 Core Update ends up being as potent as it has the potential to be, it could be a good thing for SEOs.It’s no secret that, amid the economic downturn, companies are laying off staff and clients are pausing services. Services provided by SEOs are especially valuable any time an algorithm update occurs. The more explosive the update, the more valuable those services become. That means SEOs may soon find themselves in a position where there’s a significant rise in demand for. Not that this already didn’t happen in the last few weeks, especially looking at the current Covid-19 situation.
Aside to this, our digital marketing firm has been recognised as a Top 100 SEO company by the world’s leading independent authority on search, TOPSEOS. This sparks the interest and demand even more.
Core May 2020 Update: So What to Do
Google’s approach to this update aligns with past core updates—no deviation. Their stance on rankings decline after such updates remains consistent: no “fix” needed. Instead, focus lies on enhancing content quality. The directive to create top-tier content endures. This implies an aspiration to establish each piece as a comprehensive resource, catering to users’ queries adeptly. By embracing this ethos, sites can navigate updates while delivering valuable user experiences.
